Overview
Footage Search allows you to make detailed searches to quickly find the exact shot you need. You can perform a Keyword Search or an Advanced Search by category. If you Search for a Cinematographer, you can preview their specific collection. Often it's best to do a more general search, then narrow down your search with the Search within Results feature. You can quickly View Prior Searches at any time.
Keyword Search is the quickest way to search for the footage you need. From the Search Toolbar on the top of every page, enter keywords in the Keyword Search text box, and click 'Search.' If you are unsure of spelling, it is best to enter abbreviations or part of a word. For example, a search for keywords 'ang fish' will find clips containing 'angler fish' and 'angel fish.' To widen the search, use 'Or' and to narrow the search use 'Not'. For example a search for keywords 'whale Not shark' will find clips containing whales but exclude whale sharks. A search for 'whale Or shark' will find clips containing whales or sharks.
Advanced Search
Advanced Search allows you to search by specific categories (e.g., Camera Format, Composition, Subject Categories). Click the "Advanced Search" tab on the menu bar. On the Advanced Search page, type in relevant keywords and/or use the pull-down menus to describe your desired clip and click the Search button. You can combine any of these fields to perform sophisticated searches to narrow down your search results. For example, you could enter keyword 'squid,' then choose Composition 'Close-up' and Time of Day 'Night.' Your search would need to meet all these criteria and would likely yield relatively few, but highly relevant, results.
The Rights Qualifier buttons, “All,” “Royalty Free” and “Rights Managed” are located just underneath the Search Bar on all pages. They are also located separately on the Advanced Search page. The default selection is always set to, “All.” However, you may select either Rights Managed or Royalty Free whenever you wish to limit your search results to one of these two Rights Categories.
Search Cinematographers
To view the Profile Page of a specific Cinematographer and to search within their collection, enter their name under 'Search Cinematographer' on the bottom of the Advanced Search page and click on the Search button. You can also Browse all Cinematographers by clicking the 'View All Cinematographers' link at the bottom of the page. On the Search Results page, click on the name of the desired Cinematographer. Once you arrive at the Cinematographer's Profile Page, you can search their online stock footage collection, browse their collection, do an Advanced Search, or Browse by Keywords.
